Gear Up Program

What is the GearUp Program?

Young Enterprising Society has partnered with Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) through the Gear Up Program. Over the next seven years, YES and MPS will work together helping prepare more MPS students for college. The program also partners with local organizations including the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee, UW–Milwaukee, MATC, UW–Whitewater, UW–Oshkosh, UW–Parkside, My Sistah’s KeepHer, and Mentor Milwaukee. Our goal is to provide academic support, study skill development, and college preparation for as many students as possible. This effort will support more than 4,100 MPS students each year from 28 schools.

This curriculum prepares middle and high school students from Milwaukee Public Schools for success in post-secondary education by using artificial intelligence (AI). Students are introduced to AI fundamentals, critical thinking in the digital age, and practical tools that support research, writing, problem-solving, and time management. Through interactive lessons, projects, and collaborative activities, students explore how AI impacts various fields and careers, encouraging future studies in technology-driven environments.

This professional development program equips teachers with the knowledge and tools necessary to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) effectively into their teaching practices. Designed for educators at Milwaukee Public Schools, the curriculum covers essential AI concepts, ethical considerations, and practical classroom applications. Teachers will learn to use AI tools for lesson planning, classroom management, personalized learning, and assessment. Workshops and hands-on training sessions help educators improve instruction and student engagement.
